SUMMARY:Advanced Education for Excellence in Dental Sleep Medicine
DESCRIPTION:Description The interest in Dental Sleep Medicine (DSM) has grown and involves not only oral appliances for Sleep Related Breathing Disorders (SRBD)\, such as sleep apnea and snoring\, but also involves sleep bruxism\, orofacial pain including TMD and related medical conditions. The dentist has a major role in the recognition and management of patients with these conditions. In addition\, the guidelines from the American Dental Association (ADA) indicate that the dentist should be trained to recognize\, facilitate the diagnosis of sleep apnea\, and be well versed in oral appliance therapy.Course lectures are designed to review the aspects of sleep that are relevant to the practicing dentist and are reinforced with demonstration as well as hands-on experience in the clinic. This involves the examination process\, the process of obtaining a bite registration for fabrication of an oral appliance and the delivery of the oral appliance. This course includes the opportunity to fabricate and deliver an oral appliance for the participant. This is not required to take part in the course\, but highly recommended**.This course provides the didactic and clinical knowledge for the dentist to become a productive and successful participant in the management of SRBD\, with the focus primarily on patients within their existing practice.The course is designed to cover all aspects of sleep medicine and sleep disorders through lectures from various specialists. The lectures are designed to review all aspects of sleep that are relative to the practicing dentist and are reinforced with demonstration as well as hands-on experience in the clinic. This involves the examination process\, the process of obtaining a bite registration for fabrication of an oral appliance and the delivery of the oral appliance. The lectures and discussion will involve how the dentist can be a productive and successful participant in the management of sleep disorders\, and specifically SRBD. SUMMARY:The Efficacy of Hypnosis\, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Biofeedback for the Alleviation of Anxiety\, Pain and Phobias in the Dental Patient
DESCRIPTION:For over a century hypnosis has been used as an effective method for the treatment of many different issues in medicine and dentistry. In the field of orofacial pain\, we are often faced with issues whose etiology can often\, to say the least\, be profoundly puzzling. From Bruxism and Gagging to TMD and Migraine\, Hypnotherapy has been time tested and scientifically proven to be an effective adjunct to traditional therapy. While not using it to get the patient to walk like a chicken and quack like a duck\, we can now effectively decrease anxiety\, improve communication and rapport\, diminish pain and improve treatment compliance. This course will take place over 2 days. The attendees will learn the art of hypnotherapy from simple induction techniques\, to deepening procedures through to suggestion methods. Each attendee will receive hands on training experiencing the state of hypnosis as well as how to help their fellow students experience it for themselves. Each student will leave this course with a very effective addition to their toolbox. DESCRIPTION:Sinus floor augmentation has become a routine procedure that enhances the outcome of dental implants placed in the posterior maxilla when insufficient bone volume is found. The question remains\, what is the best choice of donor material to use for sinus grafting? This course will not only provide hands-on laboratory session to familiarize the participant with the surgical techniques\, but also reveal the science behind selection of the appropriate donor material. The surgical technique will be demonstrated from flap design to accessing the sinus floor to proper soft tissue closure and finally to managing complications associated with sinus floor graft. DESCRIPTION:Award-winning educator and multi-practice owner\, Amrita Patel\, DDS\, FICD\, FPFA and Lisa Greer\, Dental Benefits Analyst with the California Dental Association will speak on Demystifying Dental Benefit Plans for Associate Dentists. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDr. Amrita Patel is a general dentist in private practice in Westchester County New York\, a faculty member at the University of South Dakota\, and a nationally recognized speaker. From 2018-2020\, she chaired the New Dentist Committee of the New York State Dental Association and was the recipient of the American Dental Association 10 Under 10 Award in 2021. Dr Patel is the leadership columnist for the Academy of General Dentistry’s Impact magazine and writes a recurring column for Dental Economics.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLisa specializes in several aspects of dentistry\, including working with dental benefit plans\, dental billing\, accounts receivable\, community marketing\, human resources\, practice management and regulatory compliance. As a Practice Analyst\, she brings more than 20 years of dental industry experience to CDA\, including having served as a regional collections specialist for a dental support organization that supported 70-plus California offices.

DESCRIPTION:Description This 84-hour (52hrs. at LLU laboratory/32hrs. extern at extramural facility) course is designed to prepare RDA students to be eligible to take the written state board examination for Orthodontic Assisting Permit licensure.The student will be able to perform practical aspects and apply classroom theory in a laboratory environment\, as well as performing orthodontic chairside assisting for a private practice orthodontist or general dentist as an externship. Classroom instruction includes material science\, infection control protocol\, and advanced chairside assisting techniques in the orthodontic specialty. Students are prepared to perform Orthodontic Assistant duties as described in the Dental Practice Act.

Numerous treatment approaches exist to address these conditions\, yet they often yield limited success. This presentation aims to provide attendees with comprehensive information on maintaining oral hygiene\, starting from the initial implant placement\, and continuing through to long-term care. It will also cover proper instrumentation\, techniques\, and various medications\, highlighting those that may contribute to or impede successful outcomes.Session 2: Which type of all-ceramic crown will produce the best esthetic result? Zirconia or lithium disilicate? with Dr. Charles GoodacreThe use of all-ceramic crowns has increased dramatically and this presentation will describe and compare the two most commonly used materials (zirconia and lithium disilicate) based on tooth translucency\, presence of a definite zone of dentin coloration\, tooth discoloration\, and use on teeth with limited amount of tooth reduction. The presentation will show many examples of single maxillary anterior teeth restored with both types of crowns\, a procedure considered one of the most esthetically challenging treatments to provide.
