The dentist has a major role in the recognition and management of patients with these conditions. In addition\, the guidelines from the American Dental Association (ADA) indicate that the dentist should be trained to recognize\, facilitate the diagnosis of sleep apnea\, and be well versed in oral appliance therapy.Course lectures are designed to review the aspects of sleep that are relevant to the practicing dentist and are reinforced with demonstration as well as hands-on experience in the clinic. This involves the examination process\, the process of obtaining a bite registration for fabrication of an oral appliance and the delivery of the oral appliance. This course includes the opportunity to fabricate and deliver an oral appliance for the participant. This is not required to take part in the course\, but highly recommended**.This course provides the didactic and clinical knowledge for the dentist to become a productive and successful participant in the management of SRBD\, with the focus primarily on patients within their existing practice. The course is designed to cover all aspects of sleep medicine and sleep disorders through lectures from various specialists. The lectures are designed to review all aspects of sleep that are relative to the practicing dentist and are reinforced with demonstration as well as hands-on experience in the clinic. This involves the examination process\, the process of obtaining a bite registration for fabrication of an oral appliance and the delivery of the oral appliance. The lectures and discussion will involve how the dentist can be a productive and successful participant in the management of sleep disorders\, and specifically SRBD. The expanding definition of DSM will be explored\, as this involves sleep bruxism and all aspects of orofacial pain. This course is designed such that the participant will be optimally competent and be considered qualified in the use of oral appliance therapy for sleep apnea and snoring. This is of particular importance given that Orofacial Pain is now a dental specialty that also involves sleep. Anyone practicing DSM needs to be able to also practice at the same standard of care equivalent to a specialist\, and this course is intended to accomplish this.Event Session InformationSessions Session #1 Start Date: October 25\, 2024Session #1 Start Time: 8:00 AMSession #1 End Date: October 26\, 2024Session #1 End Time: 1:00 PMSession #2 Start Date: November 1-2\, 2024Session #2 Start Time: 8:00 AMSession #2 End Date: November 1-2\, 2024Session #2 End Time: 12:00 PMSession #3 Start Date: December 6\, 2024Session #3 Start Time: 8:30 AMSession #3 End Date: December 7\, 2024Session #3 End Time: 1:00 PM \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOther cost information\, if applicable. **Note: Lab fees for appliance fabrication will be the responsibility of theattendeeEvent Website https://dentistry.ucla.edu/course/2544Location UCLA School of Dentistry URL:https://www.cda.org/event-details/advanced-education-for-excellence-in-dental-sleep-medicine/2024-11-01/ END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Los_Angeles:20241101T083000 DTEND;TZID=America/Los_Angeles:20241101T123000 DTSTAMP:20250505T004551 CREATED:20240405T192833Z LAST-MODIFIED:20250129T204609Z UID:10000417-1730449800-1730464200@www.cda.org SUMMARY:Pearls in Our Backyard DESCRIPTION: URL:https://www.cda.org/event-details/pearls-in-our-backyard/ LOCATION:Sacramento District Dental Society\, 2035 Hurley Way\, Ste 200\, Sacramento\, CA\, 95825\, United States CATEGORIES:Affiliate Virtual Event ORGANIZER;CN="Sacramento District Dental Society":MAILTO:sdds@sdds.org END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Los_Angeles:20241101T090000 DTEND;TZID=America/Los_Angeles:20241101T130000 DTSTAMP:20250505T004551 CREATED:20240925T200019Z LAST-MODIFIED:20240925T200023Z UID:10000526-1730451600-1730466000@www.cda.org SUMMARY:CDA Foundation Board of Directors DESCRIPTION: URL:https://www.cda.org/event-details/cda-foundation-board-of-directors-6/ END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Los_Angeles:20241101T100000 DTEND;TZID=America/Los_Angeles:20241101T113000 DTSTAMP:20250505T004551 CREATED:20240925T200416Z LAST-MODIFIED:20240925T200420Z UID:10000527-1730455200-1730460600@www.cda.org SUMMARY:Interdisciplinary Affairs Forum DESCRIPTION: URL:https://www.cda.org/event-details/interdisciplinary-affairs-forum/ END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Los_Angeles:20241104T120000 DTEND;TZID=America/Los_Angeles:20241104T130000 DTSTAMP:20250505T004551 CREATED:20241018T201019Z LAST-MODIFIED:20241018T205844Z UID:10000566-1730721600-1730725200@www.cda.org SUMMARY:UCLA PPID CDA Freshmen orientation DESCRIPTION:UCLA PPID Class of 2026 is invited for a lunch and learn. This course will review basic information on RPDs\, look at each component of the appliance and their function. We will look at how to use implants to stabilize the RPD and make the prosthesis clasp free. There is often confusion on the need for a separate impression for the distal extension case. This is not necessary\, and we will review how to do a single impression for the distal extension RPD. We will look at new materials on the market\, how effective are they\, how do they hold up with time\, and how are they constructed. We will review digital imaging for dental implants and the fabrication and printing of surgical guides. The placement of immediate dentures can often be challenging\, Dr. Hansen has over thirty years of experience in both the surgery and the placement of conventional immediate dentures.ObjectivesWe will look at how to predictably fabricate and place the immediate denture. We will review both the surgical aspect and the prosthodontic aspect.Review basic principles of RPDs. We will review clasp design\, use of indirect retainers\, releasing clasps\, and basic design philosophy.New materials in RPD construction. Types of RPD design philosophy.Impression making for RPDs\, how to load the tissue in one appointment.Use of dental implants for the most predictable result\, with great patient acceptance.Treatment planning of the implant retained partial and complete dentures.
