This course is approved by the Dental Board of CA and mandated for ALL dentists and oral surgeons renewing their license. \n\n\n\nLearning Objectives: \n\n\n\n\nDiscuss non-opioid strategies for Pain Management in Dentistry\n\n\n\nReview the scientific data that demonstrates the superiority of NSAIDS +/- acetaminophen for dental pain\n\n\n\nReview non-opioid alternatives such as ketorolac\, Exparel\, and steroids\n\n\n\nDiscuss the Regulatory Requirements for Prescribers and Dispensers\n\n\n\nReview basic principles regarding opioid prescribing\, including screening and the use of CURES\n\n\n\nDiscuss Dental Office Procedures for Managing Vulnerable or Substance Use Disorder Patients\n\n\n\n\nTarget Audience: All CA dentists who need to renew their license as this is a mandatory course. \n\n\n\nDr. Steve Yun\, M.D.\, Diplomate\, American Board of AnesthesiologyDr. Yun is a board-certified anesthesiologist who specializes in dental office anesthesia. DESCRIPTION:Occupational pain among dental professionals is a widespread problem that adversely affects our careers and daily life. As a practicing dentist recovering from disabling pain\, I will share my journey to wellness and my findings from extensive research. You will learn the reasons behind musculoskeletal challenges in dentistry and learn practical strategies to manage or prevent them altogether. These include ergonomics in the operatory\, finding effective healthcare\, physical therapy exercises\, and other self-help methods. \n\n\n\nLearning Objectives: Identify the most common musculoskeletal disorders in dentistry and associate awkward postures. Discuss how prolonged static posture cause muscle imbalances\, leading to pain syndromes in dental professionals. Learn ergonomic principles\, including posture\, position\, and periodic stretch\, to prevent muscle imbalances. Learn simple chairside stretches\, home exercises\, and self-care methods to prevent occupational musculoskeletal disorders. \n\n\n\nRegistration begins at 9:30am Course Time: 10:00am-1:00pm \n\n\n\nRefreshments will be served.
